Position Overview

The Marine Service Technician is an individual responsible for maintaining and repairing Quality issues for all Polaris Boat makes and models. They will assist in diagnostics, troubleshooting, technical assistance, training and repairs related to all boats. Their job is to assist the dealer or retail customer in resolving a particular product problem(s). Also, the Marine Service Technician will work as a link (communication, evaluation, auditing) between Polaris Boats (engineering, manufacturing & quality) and the dealer and/or retail customer.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide diagnostics, troubleshooting and technical assistance to dealers in compliance with Polaris Boat repair policies and procedures.
  • Identify emerging technical conditions and concerns occurring at the plants or dealerships and be instrumental in problem recognition and data collection and report findings to Polaris Boat (engineering, manufacturing, quality & warranty).
  • Prepare written quality product observation report containing photographs/illustrations/sample parts/videos, clearly explaining condition and recommended solutions.
  • Obtain incident components when requested and secure related data regarding condition. Forward supporting parts, subject data and documentation to engineering, quality or warranty as quickly as possible.
  • Work closely with engineering, quality or warranty to research reported or known concerns and study the effectiveness of proposed and implemented filed solutions.
  • Assist in the evaluation of a potential buyback or review of a surveyor report.
  • Provide technical support to customer service, engineering, quality and warranty when needed.
  • Testing and repairing equipment by travelling to the location of the customer (dealer or retail customer) when required.
  • Providing troubleshooting as well as performing installation of equipment.
  • Performing the confirmation that the equipment is functional.
  • Provide telephone support to the customer in order to perform troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring the equipment on which they have performed troubleshooting are in proper working condition.
  • Completion of all required paperwork related to the customer issue.
  • Communication of all repairs, customer issues and completion of jobs through Polaris Boats.
  • Conduct other tasks related to the purpose of this position as assigned.
  • Driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours on short notice; position requires the ability to be on call after normal working hours.
  • Ability to travel and often in short notice. Depending on location, position may require overnight travel.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to work independently or with less supervision.
  • Needs to possess excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have good customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain good relations with customers.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to manage service calls.
  • Ability to communicate through computer use -- email or other software.
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking setting priorities and scheduling work activities with minimal supervision.
  • Must be self-starter, enthusiastic, team player, committed, hardworking, honest and effective.
  • Outgoing personality; works well as both a leader and member of a team.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Post-secondary education in instrumentation
  • Associate degree or certification in a related field
  • Must have basic knowledge in computers -- (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Certifications from marine engine producers
  • Knowledge of the NMMA requirements for each Polaris Boat product
