QUALITY ENGINEER

Elkhart, Indiana

With a positive attitude, strong leadership techniques, and with minimal oversight, the Quality Engineer leads all plant audits, quality activities and supports the operations organization. The successful candidate will work in conjunction with other team members to improve customer satisfaction and reduce cost of quality through waste reduction and process control. The Quality Engineer will report directly to the Quality Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

§ Lead in improving processes using statistics and data analysis techniques.

§ Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities. These activities are proactive, rather than reactive, in nature. Subjects of continuous improvement activities suggestions to eliminate waste in process, and quality improvement/ variation reduction initiatives

§ Using the 8D principles, Lead in Root Cause and Corrective Action activities.

§ Aid in establishing quality standards and communicate them to the teams involved. This activity includes a wide range of actions from establishing visual standards, boundary samples, K-cards, and single point lessons.

§ Create and maintain documentation as required by the Quality System. These activities include Corrective Actions, Critical to Process, Standard Work, Standard operating procedures, Single Point lessons, and LPA's.

§ Attend scheduled meetings and actively participate by providing meaningful input

§ Comply with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions

§ Provide constant feedback and input into process improvement within the department

§ Be the Quality subject matter expert and aid in training other associates

§ Actively involved in design reviews as well as identifying significant and critical feature characteristics on drawings

§ Responsible for execution of standard work in operations.

§ Designs and/or specifies inspection and testing equipment or correct measuring tools

§ Analyzes production limitations and standards, recommends revisions of specifications and/or process improvements (Assists with DFMEA)

§ Assists in the formulation of Quality Management System documentation

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, & KNOWLEDGE

· Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Quality Management.

  • 3-5 years of quality control/assurance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Six Sigma Lean or other problem-solving training required
  • Manufacturing and Assembly experience

· Knowledge of standard lean tools and concepts

  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Perform successfully in a high change environment; Able to quickly and effectively transition between tasks
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and stats package (SPC tools, minitab, QI Macros)
  • Aptitude to read and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to use gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate thoughts and ideas to co-workers and management
  • Ability to multi-task and willingness to be flexible with time and schedule as to assure availability to customer or company as circumstances warrant
  • Communicate honestly, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills
  • Ability to represent the company during onsite customer visits
  • Capability to analyze, process and apply large amounts of complex information
  • Utilize advanced statistical analysis and sound problem-solving skills when needed
  • Ability to lead teams to produce the expected results for continuous improvement
